Health check first. Free.

Every car gets one before it's tuned, at no charge. If something's wrong, we'll tell you, and it gets fixed before any map goes on.

What we look at

A remap asks a little more of an engine. A healthy one takes that in its stride; one with a fault doesn't, and tuning it would only hide the problem.

£0Before every remap, at your door.

  • Fault codes

Stored and pending codes in the engine ECU, and the gearbox where there is one. A code that keeps coming back points to something that needs fixing.

  • Boost

On turbo engines, the boost the engine asks for against the boost it makes. A gap usually means a leak, a sticking actuator or a tired turbo.

  • Fuelling

Fuel trims and rail pressure, which show up air leaks, a weak pump or injectors past their best.

  • Ignition

On petrols, misfires and how much timing the engine is pulling back: the first sign of tired plugs or coils.

  • DPF and EGR

On diesels, how full the particulate filter is and how the EGR valve is behaving. A blocked DPF needs sorting before more power goes through it.

  • The basics

Warning lights, battery voltage, coolant temperature and anything we can see under the bonnet, like an oil or coolant leak.

On the day

The check comes first, before anything is written to the car, wherever we're tuning it.

Book with a health check
  1. Plug in

We connect to the car's diagnostic port and read every fault code, stored and pending, before anything else.

  2. Watch it run

With the engine running we read live data: boost on a turbo engine, fuelling, and the DPF on a diesel. These are the numbers that show how healthy it is.

  3. Look it over

Warning lights, battery voltage, leaks and the basics under the bonnet.

  4. All clear, or not yet

All clear, and we carry on with your remap. If we find a fault, we'll tell you what it is and won't tune around it. A remap won't cure a fault, so it gets fixed first.
