A clear step up
On a healthy, standard Volkswagen Golf GTD, you can typically expect Stage 1 to take power from about 184 to 220 bhp and torque from about 380 to 450 Nm: around 20% more power and 18% more torque. That's a clear step up that you should notice in everyday driving.
Most of the extra torque arrives between about 1,500 and 3,500 rpm, which is where a diesel does most of its work: pulling away, climbing hills and overtaking. So the car should feel stronger without being revved harder.
More mid-range pull means a shorter overtake, and you'll often be able to stay in gear where you'd have changed down.
More torque low down makes it feel less lazy off the line, up slip roads and out of junctions.
This is where the extra low-down torque helps most: fewer downshifts when the car is working hard or carrying weight.
Stage 1 is software only. It's set up for the standard turbo, intercooler and exhaust, so there are no parts to buy, and we save your car's original software first so it can always go back. On a healthy, standard car that makes it the sensible first step: most of the gain for the least change. Automatic or DSG? Gearbox tuning (£50 with a map) sets its torque limits to match.
Figures are estimates, modelled from the published figures for this engine. Every car differs with its condition, mileage and fuel, so we confirm your car's figures before any work. You can typically expect results like these; they're not a promise.
