What Stage 1 usually adds
On a standard car in good health. These are the rules our reg check uses when an engine isn't on our list.
| Engine | Power | Torque | What you notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turbo diesel | +20–35% | +18–30% | Stronger pull from low revs. Easier overtaking and towing. |
| Turbo petrol | +15–25% | +17–27% | More urgency through the mid-range, all the way up the rev range. |
| Non-turbo petrol | +6% | +7% | Sharper throttle response more than outright power. |
Lower-output versions of an engine usually gain the most. We confirm exact figures for your car before any work.
Where your numbers come from
The reg check is free and takes a few seconds. It's an estimate: we confirm the real figures before we touch your car.
MOT history
What the car is: make, model, engine size, fuel and year, from its DVSA MOT records.
DVLA
Where it's connected: tax and MOT dates, and the engine size for cars too new for an MOT.
Our engine list
Standard and Stage 1 figures for around 150 common engines, kept by us.
Published figures
For anything not on our list: the standard figures published for your model, with Stage 1 worked out from how that type of engine responds.
Your car, on the day
Before anything is written, we read your car and confirm what it will make.
